Join the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) and the American Camp Association (ACA) on a summer-long Scavenger Hunt to find automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in camps across the nation. The Camp AED Scavenger Hunt is fun and easy! Find an AED at your camp and take a selfie with the AED. Then post the photo with the hashtag #ProtectKidsHearts, including the camp name, state and AED location, on social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @ccfheartkids.

The CCF scavenger hunt highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and early defibrillation in an adverse cardiac event. Quick action and knowing the location of the nearest AED is key to survival when seconds count.

  • Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the U.S.
  • Cardiomyopathy is the #1 cause of SCA in the young.
  • Two thirds of SCA deaths occur without any warning.*
  • If an AED is used within 4–6 minutes after SCA, survival can be as high as 90 percent.**
